Case Description:
On 15 February 1997, the SHRO-Cairo received reliable information affirming that the Sudanese Security force, in Southern Kordufan, lead by Mr. Abdel-Salam Tiya, Abdalla kurtukaila and Khidir Ahmed Tonga, had
extra judicially killed priest Yohanna Tiya Kuku, while he was in detention In January 1997.
The NIF authority, in an attempt to hide the crime, announced the execution of a prisoner in Kadugly prison and declared that this prisoner was responsible of murdering priest Yohanna !
While recalling the plethora of crimes committed by the current government of Sudan, including the
extra judicial killing of 158 Nuba Mountains intellectuals in 1991 while in detention in the Kadugly region, also the
extra judicial and mass burial of the hundreds of Nuba Mountains citizens at (Khor Alafan) area in 24 December of 1991, the SHRO-Cairo, strongly condemns the crime of assassinating the priest Yohanna Tiya Kuku.
